Proudly carrying the moniker of the co-discoverer of DNA's molecular structure, the first scientists have moved into the Francis Crick Institute in London. The £650 million structure will be Europe's largest biomedical laboratory under one roof and will study how illness develops with the aim of tackling health conditions such as cancer, heart disease and brain disorders. The distinctive structure owes its modern appearance to the work of Tividale-based Barnshaws Section Benders, who supplied approximately 300 tons of precision curved structural steel to help realise the project.

Recently recognised at the Structural Steel Design Awards 2015, the construction of Derby Arena has benefitted from precision curved steel columns, measuring up to 24 metres long, produced by Barnshaws Section Benders.

The facility combines an Olympic standard 250 metre velodrome track, 12 badminton courts or three volley ball courts and seating for up to 5,000 spectators. The first velodrome to be constructed in the wake of the 2012 Olympics, saw the main steelwork contractor, Billington Structures Ltd, turn to metal bending specialists Barnshaws to supply the precision curved columns for the steel infrastructure of this legacy project.

The birthplace of the Ashes and the location of the first ever Test Match in England, the Oval Stadium will be further adding to its vibrant history this August as England take on Pakistan in the final test. A bastion of cricket since 1845, one of the most recent redevelopments to the stadium involved the installation of a 'living wall' at the Vauxhall End, completed in 2005. The new façade required precision curved steel sections to realise its vibrant design, so steelwork contractors Severfield contacted Barnshaws Section Benders for a fabrication solution.

The Salford Arch was financed by UK outdoor advertising business JCDecaux, and features precision rolled steel tube from Barnshaws Section Benders.
