Steel stockholder and veteran exporter of engineering material, approached specialists at Barnshaws Group to roll plates for storage tanks in a very strict time frame. Work was required to be carried out on a tight schedule in order to meet transport arrangements to Ghana in South Africa.
Barnshaws have rolled almost 100 tank plate segments to around 10 m inside radius which with the given length of 12000 mm resulted in parts reaching nearly 3.5 m in height. Apart from the demanding production process due to the sheer size of each plate, our specialists faced another challenge in the form of storage and transportation.
Sylwester Twardowski, Head of Engineering comments: “Our experienced R&D team designed bespoke frames capable of lifting up to 25 tons of plates each which were also suitable for overseas freight. The biggest difficulty was to optimise frames so they were sufficiently strong but also low enough to prevent hitting the gate while on a trailer.”
Barnshaws Group has earned a market-leading position in supplying plate rolled solutions for a wide range of storage tanks used by petrochemical businesses. Made from either S275 or S355 mild steel or stainless steel plates, Barnshaws can roll them to virtually any radius in a precision-oriented, crane-operated manufacturing process.
