Barnshaws has once again exceeded its limits with the production of the largest welded tank

Barnshaws Plate Bending has just completed a contract for a local well established fabricating Company to produce a pressure vessel measuring 4,200 mm in diameter which is the largest we have produced to date.

The scope of work included welding two dished ends which in itself is a first due to welding in enclosed spaces. The process was inspected by Zurich Inspection Services and passed the first time which meant we could deliver the vessel ahead of the schedule. Afterwards it has been inspected for any possible leaks by filling with nearly 200,000 litres of water.

Furthermore, the diameter and roundness tolerances we achieved were much better than what we would normally offer on a cylinder of this size. This was achieved by a series of careful rolling and trimming operations performed by our most skilled rollers.

Ian Clark, Director at Barnshaws Plate Bending says “We are very excited to work with our clients to achieve the best results for each project. Our capabilities, machines, and qualified workers allow us to do so. Barnshaws can offer single cylinders or multiple belted shells, circumferentially welded up to 20 metres in length with a maximum weight restriction of 20 Tons. This capability means we can quickly deliver bespoke fabrications of almost any size.”

Plate rolling accompanied with welding cylinders have always been one of the primary services of the Barnshaw group. Our vast range of plate rolling machines has been carefully selected to offer the best service. To maintain the contracted tolerances, as a standard practice, every cylinder is calibrated and inspected after welding. This eliminates the risk of despatching cylinders with any distortions and assures the Customers’ satisfaction.
