A vibrant sculpture bent by Barnshaws Scotland decorates the Scottish Canal landscape

The new sculpture “Full Circle” inspired by the Falkirk Wheel and designed by Heater Cumming recently has been installed as part of the Canal Encounters programme, in conjunction with Scottish Canals and Falkirk Community Trust. The sculpture is designed to present the history and ecology of the Forth & Clyde canal.

Thanks to our commitment and our previous experience with the fabricator, GM Welding Services awarded Barnshaws with an order to provide bending services for this project.

The sculpture consists of a series of welded half rings (180° segments) rolled out of SHS 50x50x5 to suit the customer’s specifications.

John Chalmers, Director at Barnshaws Scotland, said: “We are extremely proud to be part of this installation for Scottish Heritage. For a sculpture that is meant to signify a community's cultural and historical heritage, it has been extremely important that we do the best we can. We hope residents and visitors to the Forth & Clyde will enjoy “Full Circle” for many years to come.”

While more famous for involvement in large infrastructure projects, Barnshaws also gathers a great experience in the fabrication of custom artwork. The Scottish branch has been involved in the fabrication of much bigger projects such as the ArcelorMittal Orbit. Barnshaws prides itself on its range of equipment and quality of work – which allows the company to tackle highly complex fabrication and bending challenges of almost any scale.
